The Evangelical Universalist

Evangelical Universalist

The Evangelical Universalist: £8.57

We had one of the most lively discussions on my blog back in the summer of 2006, around this book (126 comments before we closed the post).

Whilst the author writes under a pseudonym (Gregory McDonald), I know him well, and he’s a great friend. After much lobbying, the publishers are going to distribute the book in the UK.

So no more expensive Amazon.com orders to get the book to the UK! I’ve asked the author to appear here and write about the book, and interact with you all, so watch this space.

    This is great news Jase.

I thought it was a great book and very well written. For people who have theological arguments with the notions of universalism, the book stays firmly within orthodoxy, while taking what most would accuse of being a “less than orthodox” view of things.

I hope it gets good readership in the UK.

    I recommend it!

Hey, thanks a lot for posting about this. I read the earlier with huge interest, and found myself (to my utter joy) convinced by what “Mr MacD” had to say. The idea that either of my brothers, one autistic and one an atheist, would wind up permanently apart from God has never sat well with m conception of a loving God, but I’d never heard about universalism until reading about it on this blog. I am going to order the book now toot sweet! Thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart, for drawing my (and others’) attention to this wonderful doctrine.

I really enjoy the blog overall, too. Can you recommend any other good Christian blogs out there? I’ve never really used the net for faith-related activities much, and don’t really know where to start looking…

    God bless you!
    Sarah

Sarah, one of my friends is currently discussing Christian Universalism on her blog.

Jason’s list of blogs he recommends is here (actually that page doesn’t seem to be working right now but I’m sure Jason will get it fixed soon)

You know, I have never taken a look at this book, and here I am in the U.S.! I shall have to. Readers might be interested to know that I have a collection of 200+ Christian Universalist bookmarks on my personal Del.icio.us page, for research purposes. And just so you know: I neither confirm nor deny the ultimate reconciliation of all things unto Christ, but I do have my hopes. :)

In this vein, has anyone read Hans Urs von Balthasar’s, “Dare We Hope?”? Though not a universalist, strictly speaking, Balthasar does think through our obligations as Christians to believe in God’s will that all be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
