Hi Thomas, thank you :-)

I think it was K Barth who said something along the lines of the Church as being the natural home and place for theology, and I'd agree with that.

Seminaries do do thinking, but we need a more thinking church, as well as a more practicing seminary, whilst allow a distinct focus with the two at the same time, perhaps!

Jase, a breath of fresh air or, as you put it, "an alternative to the relentless pressure of consumer liturgy." Within the Deep Church framework you've outlined, does Stanly Hauerwas' statement, "The seminary is the place where the church does its thinking." have merit? If I'm reading you correctly, Deep Church would actually be a corrective to the Hauerwasian notion, opening up the church to the seminary and the seminary to the church and advancing the idea that the church should "think" in whatever environment she finds herself in.

Some great thoughts Jason. What does it mean to be "born again"/ baptised into the christian community or family, in terms of our personal spirituality? I believe the concept of socialisation is significant here. There is a difference between being person's in communion than individuals in a crowd/ group.

reason #837 that i really, really like jason:

"I’m particularly keen to help connect academics with the concrete reality of church, and to help church leaders interact with the reflective and theological aspects that arise from the notions of ‘Deep Church’."
