1. banging-my-head-against-the-wall-by-the-brownhorse-on-flickr.jpgLast week, my sister told me a story about what had been taught at the on-campus ministry she is a part of. The head-honcho of the group had spoken on the first night of the group and talked about truth. Well, it turned out that the “sermon” was about warning them about the emergent movement (and this is to be considered “truth,” apparently)! I couldn’t believe it when she told me—warning about the emergent movement! She went on to explain what he warned about—ironically, it was about being inclusive and loving towards *gasp* everyone (including gays and divorcees)!

  2. Head

We’ve got some new posts over at our Deep Church blog.

Which reminds me that Paul Mayers and I will be outlining a series of posts called, ‘What is Deep Church?’, in a couple of weeks time…we hope!

  3. Speaking

Stuart Murray Williams and my mate Graham Old, are about to launch what promises to be a great a new resource website. They have billed www.interacticepreaching.net as a site that will ‘promote the practice and values of dialogical, experimental, communal and practical preaching.’

  4. pic_3-by-crosspointe-dash-church-dot-org.jpg“You’re not singing anymore!” is a chant that echoes around the grounds of football matches where one team’s supporters crow how the opposition support has been stunned into silence by conceeding a goal or other such setback.

It is also my feeling when i come across discussions amongst people in the emerging conversation about worship singing in church/christian context – is worship an own goal/ a sending off (sin bin) offense for the emerging church? Well if we are deconstructing worship as singing then maybe it looks like it is a flawed activity for a number of reasons. But what is our choice going forward… no music? alternative worship? reframing worship?

Maybe you can help me as I explore with you some suggestions of how we’ve managed to get where we are and what is a constructive/positive/healthy way forward from here…

  5. light-and-dark.jpgThis is an abbreviated version of what I just put on my blog in response to someone who said that the emerging church loves darkness:

    I LOVE DARKNESS!

I love the dark places of this earth because that’s where the light of Creator can shine the brightest. I stand for those who live in the darkness of the earth because that’s who Jesus stood for. That’s where social justice can reign and show herself true. That’s where creation can see redemption.

  6. Crucible

Stuart Murray Williams sent me some info a few days ago about a training programme called Crucible. Based around three intensive training weekend, it really does look superb for anyone interested in understanding post-Christian culture, and how to think and act missionally.

  7. Signposts

Given the large number of visits to my post end of last week on my talk to the EA UK council, and several hundred downloads, I thought I’d ask the question of you all?

What would you answer to that question/title?

  8. Freedom..?

maybe-by-tal-bright-at-flickr.jpgWhat freedom do we really have?

As a Christian I am led to believe by some of those around me that I am weighed down by the heavy burden of following Christ.

Christians are often called hypocrites; we say one thing and do another…

These actions wound the Body of Christ in more ways than I think we can imagine. The rules and regulations that we have to live by are constantly questioned…’why on earth would I want to do that?’ ask my friends ‘why not just be free to do your own thing?’

‘My own thing’ now there is a thought…what is my own thing?

  9. Changes Sign

I enjoyed my two days with the EA UK council. My presentation was the last session, and seemed to be received well judging by the nature and volume of questions afterwards, and comments. Out of all the talks I have produced I found the title given to me (above), my brief, and audience rather daunting.

I so wanted to be a help and positive influence, given the nervousness of many in the room to the subject of emerging church. Thanks to this new digital audio recorder, I got an immediate stereo MP3 for uploading, and you can get a copy/listen to it here.

  10. Catholic-Evangelical dialogueA Roman Catholic-Evangelical Dialogue will take place in Chicagoland this Sunday evening. One of my friends, John Armstrong, organized it.

Do you see value in dialogue about theology between Christians who have significant theological differences with one another?

If so, which Christians with different beliefs from you would you most like to have a dialogue with, assuming they’re open to it?
