Interactive Prayer 24/1

Prayer 24/1

Paul & Moira from one of our small groups in our church community organised a 24 hours of prayer for our church community, centred around issues of social justice, environment and gloablisation. I took some photos (you can view them here) of our church centre that was transformed into several areas with information, posters, activites, and things to interact with as people prayed.

It made me think again of how much prayer has changed for me, and in the life of our church community over the past 10 years. Whereas prayer was once sitting in a room with others often feeling like we were talking to the wall, there are so many other ways to explore prayer with creativity, participation and engagement. And for that I am very grateful.

Could you add the link to the photos please? I’m pretty keen we stretch our experience here, too often I’ve sat in rows of chairs, all facing one direction – we can do better, reflecting the creativity that God has given us. Any other posts that you’ve done that discuss this? Thanks.

As part of the house group that set it up I can tell you it was one of the most moving and rewarding things I’ve ever done. Our house group had been challenged on these issues for a while and this was our response. During my time manning the prayer room I was on my own and really able to sit and reflect, watching the presentation on the screen and praying and singing outloud with only God to hear me. It was powerful, challeging and something which we should do again defintiely, and the great thing is we can pray for all sorts of things as well as the issues we were focussing on. But doing something like this always demands a response, and the thing that is on my mind now is ‘How can we respond to the challenge God puts before us?’ Jesus once spoke about ‘whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me’.

The challenge then is, what are we doing for ‘Jesus’ today? And if we’re not doing anything, what can we do?

Really helpful, thanks. Not sure what the teddy bear was about though? I love the creativity and variety in this. I think one of the other challenges of prayer, and maybe we still don’t tackle this, is do our prayers stay small and vague rather than big and specific? Do our prayers reflect our faith in a big God? Thanks for posting the link.
