Baptism

Pippa

Last thursday we baptised five people from our church community. I always find baptisms a ‘thin space’ like the notion in the Celtic tradition of space/time locations where the spiritual and the natural world intersect. The sense of the prescence of Jesus, as people made themselves vulnerable sharing their journey of pain, struggles, and of finding Jesus in the most difficult, as well as the most humdrum of times, was palpable. It always does my faith good, to hear people talk about how they came to follow Jesus, and pattern their life after him.

It reminded me again, of what Christianity is about, helping others find and grow into Christ together, for the mission of Jesus through his church in the world. I have more photos here.

Greetings Jason – fantastic to hear your news about the baptisms (no men…?)
i agree with your comment about baptisms being a ‘thin place’. It is a joy and privilege to baptise those who have made their spiritual journey…
many blessings on your continuing journey together
    Edward

      Hi Steve

I took the photos…they did come out well, some of the best i’ve taken.

It felt a bit odd being so close to people being baptised…somewhere between intruding and privilage.

It was a great service and Jon and Jase were great.

        marc –

it appears to me that you have quite an eye for photography…and the heart and wisdom to tread the path between intrusion and priveldge…so, so excellent!

I do love baptisms. It seems very fitting to have a baptism in the spring, just as we enter Holy week – new life and all. Many blessings to those who have just been baptised.

A very thin place… it was great being able to pray for people after they had been baptised and to be there as part of a shared community.

The reality of the openess and honest sharing of the people being baptised makes me think that we should all get baptised at least once a yr just to remind ourselves that is what the journey is like not something we did once way back when…

But maybe that’s making it too much like AA..?
