i don’t really get it. The title mentions speciesism, the text talks about it, but you then end up talking about still using & exploiting non humans… This is obviously speciesism. The same as treating a female as a mere means to someone’s end is sexism!

Excellent issue to be thinking about. Wish I had more time to write something about it here.

There is a certain sense that as time goes on, what Gregory Peterson in his book “Minding God” calls the “locus humanus” (such as a collection of psychological attributes such as reason, language, consciousness and self-consciousness) is constantly being expanded to include other creatures. Creates unsettling thoughts for some as the boundary between human and non-human begins to blur.

I received a CFP for a journal issue next year on theological enagement with animals, including speciesism. If you want I can flick a copy on to you.

I’m glad to hear this. It’s about time Christian thought caught up with the animal rights issue. You have a great perspective…well balanced.
God created us to care for the earth, the fall did not give us the right to rape and pillage it.
We are on the precipice of an era that moves us away for dualism and modernity to a more complete whole -life belief system. I pray this aspect is an integral part of the whole. From what I see, it is, and that’s encouraging.
