Spring Watch
1 Jun 2006
For the next month, between the hours of 8.00 pm and 9.00 pm, you will find my wife and I curled up on the sofa, glass of wine in hand, taking in the delights of the BBC’s Spring Watch. For those who haven’t seen it (and for you who live elsewhere than the UK), Spring Watch is a live broadcast which simply observes the emergence of spring here in the UK. From otters frolicking in the inlets and bays of Shetland, to garden birds rearing their young in nesting boxes in Devon, Spring Watch is homage to creation par excellence. It’s also food for the soul, therapy for the weary urban dweller and an invalid opportunity for my wife (who lives with a most fragile of faith), to re-connect with her Maker. My wife and I are hardly evangelical in our outlook, but for the next month Spring Watch will be our ‘quite time’. Feel free to commune with us tonight – BBC2, 8.00 pm.

hi alan, looked for an email address, couldn’t find one… do you mean invalid opportunity, or invaluable (or even valuable!) opportunity?

Thanks Brett – the problems of an intuitive spell-checker. Naturally, I meant that the experience was invaluable to my wife. Though I’m sure some would think it an invalid way to re-connect to our maker!

I thought it would be summer drought watch for those of us in London :-) Did you catch ‘planet earth’ from the BBC and Attenborough?

Hmmm… Now if we could only pick up that BBC show here in the US instead of parliment hearings… I’m sure someone will correct me though that I can by using dish network, direct tv or digital cable…
Sounds wonderful Alan.

Alan,
Perhaps you could write a brief review of each episode for Dean and me. We’re feeling left out. Please include a description of the wine you enjoyed as well.
Thanks.

Tom/Alan,
Sorry but as Nazarene I can only enjoy your wine if it is unfermented. Oh wait, I outed myself with having a drink with a friend in my post the other day… strike this comment.

Hi Alan, I hope you guys have a wonderful time frolicking and rearing – ah spring, so cool!
As for hose pipe bans/droughts there is an irony that its rained every day since its been announced – clearly there is an elijah like figure in london who is getting their lawn prayers answered!
