I blogged back in November my response to John Hammett’s paper, that he presented to the ETS (Evaneglical Theological Society). His was a critique of Emerging Church, that was prompted by Don Carson’s book, that was quickly posted all around the internet.

I noted that whilst Don Carson’s book was poorly researched, lacked charity and openess, and made major errors that would have been avoided by talking to the people he critiqued, John Hammett’s paper was very different. Mostly in that it was a warm, supportive and open, as well as being a good critique.

Any how John emailed me along with several others, and began a dialogue. He has republished and re-presented his paper in the Criswell Theological Review, incorporating our comments and suggestions.

What I have enjoyed is learning from John, through his responsiveness to suggestions about changes to his paper. I think the result is something far more accurate (in that is involves research that has connected to the people it critiques), is offered by a fellow christian as a warm critique rather than a personalised attack.

I wish more of our critiques and dialogues were this way around, they would be far more helpful and contructive.

Anyhow, you can read the article, including an interview with Brian McLaren here.

How could I not order this? The cover alone looks great, let alone my expectation of the content. Mind you the subtitle, ‘Why Christianity Makes Sense?’ is something that make me want to write a book, ‘Christianity: Why it doesn’t make sense.”

Based on the runaway popularity of Rick Warren’s bestseller The Purpose-Driven Life, which has sold more than 24 million copies just in the English language, Zondervan is turning its sights to the final frontier: space. Special editions of the book will release on Mars, Venus, and Mercury next year, the Michigan-based Christian publishing house reported this week, with more distant planets to follow later if initial sales efforts prove successful

  5. Brianeuropetm
Time flies! I first posted about arranging Brian McLaren to visit several countries in europe, back in June last year, and May is nearly here.

I have arranged for Brian to visit several countries for a series of Emergent gatherings in may 2006. Visiting places where we have Emergent people, we will be gathering with people locally, to help strengthen their connection to Emergent, and help other people in those locations to connect.

There are so many countries and we could have had many more places to host conversations, and I’m sure some of you reading will be wanting to ask Brian to come to where you are but, he is fully booked for the whole trip now. But there is always next time, and come to one nearest to you, make a trip and journey out of it :-)

All dates and links for further info are here.

I never knew Mark Palmer, but I wish I had. I have followed his journey on his blog. Mark was a young guy who lost his first wife Jennifer, and then faced dying himself. Mark died yesterday.

There was a time when christians taught each other how to live and die, how to share in each others death, that we owed it to each other to find Jesus in the act of our dying. Mark thank you for inspiring me, for your faith in the midst of the deepest suffering. My prayers are with you wife Amy, and son Micah.

  7. Apology

    Resurgence

After his rant on Leadership’s blog that caused such a stir, Mark Driscoll, has issued an apology.

Makes me like the guy, and want to talk with him :-)

Well I just had several copies on cotton fibre paper of my doctoral disseration sent to George Fox University for binding and archiving. It took several reams of expensive paper, and cost $110 in fedex costs, just to get them from one side of town with the printer to the other at the university.

As an archive, and for future printing of copies, I just uploaded it to Lulu, for self publishing. This is a great online tool. My disseration is available from Lulu as a book here.

I was searching for an online copy of Luther’s commentary on Galations, and found this web site. It offers a load of online full text versions of some famous people in church history, including Martin Luther.

And I bet there are many other sites with lots of full texts too, any that you know of, that I could take a look at?
