What tHē #$*! Đө ωΣ (k)πow!? (or, What the [Bleep] do we know?)

Great film review and heads up at soulfarers on a film I will now try to see. Text in continuation below.

What tHē #$*! Đө ωΣ (k)πow!? (or, What the [Bleep] do we know?)
Last night a friend and I went to see the movie, “What the (bleep) do we know?” Not every theatre will play this movie because it just won’t be a major box office draw because it deals with quantum physics, human existence, God and spirituality. There’s a little non-gratuitous sex in it, but not enough blood and guts to bring in the crowds.

In my view, however, just as Christians packed the movie houses (once the bane of Christendom) for Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, so should they pack this one out. This movie deals with crucial questions facing our culture about meaning, purpose, life, and God, but in ways that challenge our western and Christian paradigm (I’m not bashing being western and Christian; I’m both. I’m also white, over the age of 50 and male, which can be deeply offensive to some people, but are accidents of birth and outside of my sphere of choice, so don’t bug me about it).

Christians who are not afraid of the choppy waters of cultural engagement need to go see this film 5 or 6 times, then buy the DVD, watch it with friends, talk about it, and look for the presence of God in the conversations.

Some of you will think I’m nuts to recommend this film. I’m used to that, so it’s OK. Interestingly, it has a little sex, a few coarse words, but it is not rated. Go figure. It might be because it has a documentary flavor. Check out the website at http://www.whatthebleep.com.

Listen to Uncle Mike, here: Go see this movie and start some conversations. My friend Kevin and I saw the movie (I think there were 4 people in the 5:00 PM showing), then went to dinner and talked about everything that impacted us. He had seen it before, so he had a little jump on things. But our shared insights made for a great evening. There were some pretty heavy things to talk about.

Maybe we could get churches to buy blocks of seats and create discussion booklets? Hmmmm??? Think so????? Probably not. But maybe YOU could!

Note: This probably isn’t a date movie unless both of you are grad students at Cal Tech or MIT.

Anyone out there seen this flick? Any comments?
