My youngest daughter last week saw this in a shop and wanted to buy it. The irony was completely lost on her but not on us. The best bit was the last few days of her asking “take my photo with Jesus”. “Jesus is in the car”, “Jesus is going to school with me”… :-)

For those whose initial reaction to this was something like:’aaaaaaaagggggghhhh cheeeeeese’
indeed not! I have no problem with respecting the cultural environment of, say 16 year olds and trying to translate the gospel in to their context, why shouldn’t it be the same for 6 yer olds?
Perhaps “Jesus is exploring emerging theology with me” could be the thought for today..

We have the interactive crucifixtion ressurection scene that goes with the figure – goes really well with star wars figures. sure we could form some irreverant or should that be irrelevant theology around it – or are they tools for holy play (I think that is the new buzz word here in NZ)

If you’ve never seen Archie McPhee’s lineup of Jesus merchandise, you’re missing out. They have the Jesus Nodder (bobblehead), gift wrap, and a whole pile of other stuff. I’m partial to the Yard Nun myself.
